A sea chart in seven fabrics
Stitch a sea chart from a scrap of cloth, then sail it before the season turns.
Threading the loom…
Sewn with wavefunctioncollapse 2.1.0 by Kevin Chapelier (MIT), a JavaScript port of Maxim Gumin's WaveFunctionCollapse. Set in Alegreya and Special Elite (SIL Open Font License). Everything else is drawn in code.
No scrap here: an Admiralty chart is sewn from eleven fixed pieces, turned and mirrored. Two pieces may touch only where land meets land and sea meets sea at their corners.
How to play
The pennant points downwind. Sailing across the wind is fastest. Close-hauled is slow, and dead into the wind you barely move, so tack, or lower the sail and row. Shallows slow you down. Shoals beside rocks (red crosses) ground a boat under full sail, so cross them at half sail. Running ashore at speed costs you hours.
120 for each harbour, 3 for every percent of the chart you reveal, and if you call at them all, 250 for the homecoming plus 40 for every day to spare.
